Carlos Maulini

| Principal Flautist

Born in Havana, Cuba, Carlos migrated to United States as a newborn with his mother and sister both named Rosa. Raised in Los Angeles, his education was fostered by the LA Unified School District, where he began his flute studies at the age of 12, while attending Virgil Jr. High School. He continued his love for the flute at Belmont High School and Pepperdine University where he was awarded a full music scholarship.

Carlos held 1st chair in Virgil’s Little Symphony, Belmont High School’s orchestra, Youth Symphony West, Saturday Music Conservatory at Cal State LA and the Pepperdine Orchestra. During this time Carlos went on to win 1st place in several Solo Competitions including Young Musicians Foundation; LA Phil Association; PTA; Healy-Hartshorn-Hutton Foundation and Youth Symphony West, which also featured him as a soloist performing Mozart’s D Major concerto.

Unexpectedly Carlos’ life took a turn which distanced music from him, for approximately 35 years. Although life has been a rewarding journey, there was always something missing and even out of reach, until now. Fortuitously, the opportunity of playing his flute again, alongside an incredible bouquet of musicians of all ages presented itself. Led by a Maestro with an undeniable passion, not only for music, but for what musicians from all walks of life can create…beautiful, heartfelt music . . . as one.
